The Introduction of Veggie McPlant McNuggets

McDonald’s recent collaboration with Beyond Meat has led to the launch of Veggie McPlant McNuggets in France. These innovative plant-based McNuggets are crafted using pea and wheat proteins, catering to a growing trend among French consumers looking to diversify their protein sources without compromising on taste or satisfaction. The partnership underscores a strategic move by McDonald’s to tap into the rising demand for plant-based options in the fast-food industry.

Strategic Partnership and Beyond Meat as the Preferred Supplier

In early 2021, McDonald’s and Beyond Meat formalized a strategic partnership making Beyond the "preferred supplier" for the patty used in the McPlant burger. This partnership extended to exploring the co-development of various plant-based items such as chicken, pork, and egg for the McPlant platform. The collaboration symbolizes a commitment to innovation and sustainability in food offerings, aligning with evolving consumer preferences for more environmentally friendly and ethical choices.

Market Testing and Expansion in Europe

Following the partnership, McDonald’s initiated market testing of plant-based meat patties in eight regions. While the test concluded prematurely in the United States due to lower-than-expected sales, Europe witnessed a different trajectory. The McPlant platform gained momentum across several European countries, with Germany also recently introducing McPlant nuggets on its menu. The success and expansion of plant-based options in Europe highlight the region's openness to alternative protein sources and sustainable dining choices.

Availability and Menu Inclusions in France

In France, the Veggie McPlant McNuggets will be permanently available in all of McDonald’s 1,560 restaurants. Customers can enjoy these plant-based nuggets as a standalone option or as part of various menus like Best Of, Maxi Best Of, and Happy Meal, all priced equivalently to the signature Chicken McNuggets. This move signifies a commitment by McDonald’s to offer inclusive menu choices that cater to diverse dietary preferences and ethical considerations.
