Review Guidelines

Our Purpose

At the Restaurant Association, our review guidelines exist to ensure all reviews and evaluations we publish are useful, fair, transparent, and trustworthy for restaurant owners, operators, and foodservice professionals. These guidelines help us deliver review content that supports informed decisions about products, services, tools, and solutions for restaurants.

The Standards Behind Every Evaluation

Every evaluation on the Restaurant Association centers on the people who rely on it: restaurant owners and operators making real decisions with real budgets. Structured research, hands-on product experience, and a clear, consistent set of evaluation benchmarks all factor into our conclusions. The result is straightforward, unbiased guidance for choosing the restaurant technology and services that fit how your business runs.

How We Build Reviews You Can Trust

Here's what goes into every review before it's published:

Merit-Based Scoring

Products are scored against a consistent set of criteria shaped by real restaurant needs usability, feature depth, integration options, support quality, and overall value. No single factor decides a rating; each is weighed against its impact on daily operations.

Multi-Source Research

Before any review goes live, our team pulls information from multiple credible sources: vendor documentation, industry reporting, verified customer feedback, and conversations with people using the product inside working restaurants.

Real-World Testing

Where access allows, we test or demo products ourselves rather than relying on marketing copy alone. Real-world use shows how a tool holds up under the pace of a busy service, not just how it looks in a sales pitch.

Side-by-Side Comparison

Each product is measured against comparable options already serving the restaurant industry, giving readers context for how a solution stacks up on features, pricing, and performance before they commit to a contract.

Staying Current

Restaurant technology moves fast, and our content moves with it. Reviews get revisited as vendors roll out new features, adjust pricing, or respond to shifting restaurant trends, so you're never working from outdated information..

Open Disclosure

We're upfront about how our process works and disclose any relationship that could influence a recommendation. If a partnership exists, we say so; you deserve to understand exactly what shaped that recommendation.

Where We Draw the Line

The Restaurant Association follows a few non-negotiable rules to keep every review credible:

No Payment for Placement

No vendor can buy their way into a better review here. Scores are earned through the same evaluation process every product goes through; payment, sponsorship, or any other financial relationship has zero influence on the outcome.

No Advertiser Bias

Advertising spend and sponsorship deals play no role in how a product scores. A vendor's marketing budget has no bearing on the outcome of a Restaurant Association review.

No Exaggerated Claims

We don't inflate a product's capabilities or repeat unproven marketing claims as fact. Every statement in our content is grounded in research, testing, or documented evidence, nothing more, nothing less.

The Role of Reader Feedback

The Restaurant Association actively welcomes input from the restaurant owners and operators who put our reviews to work. Feedback from real users often surfaces what a spec sheet can't: a feature that matters more in daily practice than on paper, or a limitation that only shows up after months of use.

Getting the Most from Our Reviews

Think of our reviews and ratings as a starting point for your research, not a substitute for it. The right point-of-sale system, reservation platform, or restaurant marketing tool depends on factors unique to your concept, footprint, and team details that no single review can fully capture. Before committing to anything we've covered, it's worth requesting a demo and talking to current users if you can.
