Michael Creatore has moved from advising franchise buyers to becoming one. The founder and former CEO of Specialized Senior Care acquired six Mold Medics territories across central Ohio, his first foray as a franchisee, and partnered with the Threshold Brands concept to stitch together a contiguous regional platform from day one. He sold his home health business to a private equity firm earlier this year, then chose a niche he believes rewards discipline and certified expertise.
His résumé arcs across corporate sales, financial planning, two exits, and years of franchise consulting. This time he wanted a single skilled trade rather than a broad restoration umbrella. “I was intrigued that it was in one section of the market … something that required certified, trained technicians,” he said. The homework behind the choice ran deep. “I specialized in helping executives and business owners who were moving on in life and wanted to develop something on their own. I had the opportunity to look at several hundred franchisees over the years,” Creatore explained.
The deal unfolded in two steps. An initial agreement in March covered three central Ohio territories and a right of first refusal on three adjacent zones. Early digital marketing campaigns revealed spillover across borders, prompting a follow-on purchase to secure all six and resolve the overlap. The initial investment for each Mold Medics franchise ranges from USD 148,400 to USD 211,725.
As of December 31, 2025, the system comprised 18 operating franchises, making Creatore responsible for one-third of the network at launch. Financially, he signed his first agreement in March 2026 and completed the full six-territory purchase by June 2026, creating a unified marketing and operations platform. The franchisor bench behind him is sizable. Inside Mold Medics, brand leader Bryan McMurray welcomed the new owner.
“What really excites me about Michael is when you are at the point that we’re as a franchise, you don’t typically get an owner like him. He’s savvy and very collaborative. I love that he gives us direct feedback in a constructive way.” McMurray forecasts 20 to 30 additional Mold Medics territories by year-end, a sign of the brand’s scale curve.
Threshold Brands oversees ten service concepts, including Maid Pro, Men In Kilts, Pestmaster, USA Insulation, Granite Garage Floors, Mold Medics, Sir Grout, Miracle Method, Plumbing Paramedics and Heating + Air Paramedics, with approximately 869 franchised units in the U.S. as of December 31, 2025. Market currents favor specialized operators. The global mold remediation service market is valued at USD 1.1 billion in 2025 and projected to reach USD 1.3 billion by 2032 at a 2.6% CAGR.
In the U.S., the segment is estimated at USD 335.2 million in 2025, supported by rising indoor air quality concerns, extreme weather events, and stricter insurance and regulatory requirements. Health-driven demand, AI-enabled moisture sensors, non-toxic biocides, and a push for sustainable solutions are shaping offerings.
Major competitors such as SERVPRO and Belfor lean on extensive networks and disaster recovery expertise. The broader home services franchise sector is expanding as well, with market size expected to grow from USD 30.4 billion in 2026 to USD 45 billion by 2033 at a 6.1% CAGR.
Open questions still circle the move:
- The private equity firm behind Specialized Senior Care’s acquisition remains undisclosed, which leaves the extent of any ongoing advisory ties unclear.
- Mold Medics’ young franchise network must scale support fast to meet an expanding pipeline.
- Licensing requirements in hurricane-prone states, including Florida, can lengthen launch timelines.
- Labor constraints and supply-chain volatility in technical equipment may weigh on ramp-up.
Even with those caveats, the playbook is crisp. Creatore is betting on a focused service model, backed by a franchisor platform, and fortified by his systems mindset, due diligence, and reputation management, evidenced by a 25-year A-plus BBB rating. If his contiguous six-territory hub in central Ohio performs, it could serve as a guide for franchise consultants who choose ownership and for operators who see more promise in depth than breadth. With Mold Medics targeting 20 to 30 new territories by year-end, the next few quarters will show how quickly a specialized brand can turn technical rigor into regional scale.
