Starbucks is going loud with citrus. Starting July 28, the chain drops a limited-time Orange Cream lineup across four platforms, plus a first-ever merchandise collaboration with Southern California label Dandy Worldwide. On August 5, eligible linked Starbucks Rewards and Delta SkyMiles members will earn one mile per dollar spent, with a one-time grace period through October 5, 2026. Both the beverages and the Starbucks x Dandy capsule hit participating U.S. locations, with select Canada stores in the mix, while supplies last.
The flavor brief leans straight into memory. The beverage innovation team pursued a sensory-driven approach built on extensive research into citrus varietals and how taste triggers recall. Kris Murray, a lead product developer, said, "For many people, orange cream is associated with the feeling of summer," pointing to freezer pops, orange peeling and outdoor adventures as cues. The team tested sour Seville oranges and blood oranges, then chose a blend of tangerine and mandarin paired with sweet vanilla cream. Starbucks also calls out the visual: the bright hue, since "orange is visually vibrant and tied to summer moments."
The bet lines up with what the business is seeing. Afternoon visits between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. outpaced growth in other dayparts, a lift the company credits to new flavor introductions and modifiers that resonate with customers’ emotions.
Here is how the new drinks are built:
- Orange Cream Cold Brew: smooth cold-steeped coffee topped with velvety orange cream cold foam.
- Iced Orange Cream Matcha: ceremonial-grade matcha layered with milk and orange cream foam for an earthy-citrus contrast.
- Iced Orange Cream Chai: spiced chai tea, milk and ice crowned with orange cream cold foam.
- Orange Cream Frappuccino® blended beverage: orange-vanilla flavor integrated with milk and ice, finished with whipped cream swirls.
Merchandise development with Dandy Worldwide, founded by Mia and Kian Schank in 2021, follows the same emotional throughline.
“In our creative process, we start with an experience or emotion we want to evoke,” said Kian Schank. The Road Trip-themed capsule spans a cold cup with collectible charms at $29.95, two stainless steel water bottles at $32.95 each, a lidded travel cup at $32.95, a retro-patch hat at $29.95, and signature sweatshirts embroidered with travel-inspired graphics.
Tina Marie Li added, "Both brands celebrate adventure and summer memories." Mia Schank reflected, "If you had told me then that Dandy would one day collaborate with Starbucks, I never would have believed you."
Loyalty is getting a push too. Starting August 5, Starbucks Rewards and Delta SkyMiles members who link accounts via Starbucks.com or the Starbucks app and have flown on Delta in the past 12 months will earn one SkyMile per dollar spent at participating U.S. coffeehouses, excluding taxes and tips.
For members without a recent flight, miles can still be earned through October 5, 2026 under a one-time grace period. Miles post within two business days under the joint terms and conditions. Existing benefits, including Double Stars on Delta travel days and exclusive offers, remain in place.
Delta’s SkyMiles program, established in 1981 and now boasting over 100 million members and more than 40 non-airline partners, aims to extend engagement into daily rituals. According to The Points Guy, the partnership stretches beyond miles to Starbucks coffee service in Sky Clubs and onboard flights.
Store teams will want to watch execution details.
The program is limited to participating Starbucks coffeehouses, and official communications omit allergen details for the new orange vanilla powder. Baristas have advised customers with nightshade allergies to verify ingredients before ordering. Early media reports also vary on the total number of Orange Cream beverages, with some outlets citing five flavors while Starbucks documentation lists four.
Availability in Canada and through mobile ordering has prompted customer questions since the announcements emphasized U.S. locations, with Canadian availability noted only in select press materials. Some baristas have already weighed in on taste via social channels, including one post calling the orange flavor "SO strong, it tastes like chemicals or medicine," a reminder that operations teams may adjust balance over time.
This playbook mirrors where the category is heading. Limited-time offers now anchor quick-service promotional calendars, and Starbucks reported cold foam sales rose over 40 percent across company-owned units in fiscal Q2. Research firm Placer.ai found that holiday LTOs at Starbucks and competitors generated mid-single-digit visit gains. Beyond beverages, limited-edition merchandise has become a meaningful revenue stream, with past cup drops selling out quickly.
Restaurant Dive analysis credits Starbucks’ Q2 traffic and sales gains to a promotional calendar anchored on limited-edition beverages and merchandise drops, a sign that coordinated, cross-category rollouts can stimulate visits, increase average ticket sizes and elevate brand excitement.
Two dates set the cadence for late summer. July 28 brings the Orange Cream portfolio and Starbucks x Dandy capsule to stores, which gives operators a clear runway for merchandising, supply chain deliveries and partner training. August 5 turns on the Delta-linked earn, with Double Stars on travel days continuing. Expect the 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. window to stay hot if the orange cream cold foam hits, and watch loyalty metrics as the miles benefit kicks in through back-to-school and into the one-time grace period that runs until October 5, 2026.
