In January, Mod Pizza saw a significant shift in its leadership structure with Beth Scott taking on the role of CEO, succeeding co-founder Scott Svenson. Beth Scott brings a wealth of experience in the restaurant industry, having previously worked at renowned establishments such as Cooper’s Hawk and Fleming’s. Her appointment marked a crucial moment for Mod Pizza as the company aimed to steer its business in a new direction under her leadership.
Alongside the CEO transition, Mod Pizza also welcomed Jennifer Anderson as its Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Anderson, known for her successful tenure as CMO at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, joined the Mod Pizza team to enhance the brand's marketing strategies and further connect with its loyal customer base. These strategic hiring decisions reflect the company's commitment to strengthening its leadership team and advancing its market position.

Despite its strong foundation, Mod Pizza faced challenges that led to the closure of several underperforming locations. The chain undertook a restructuring effort during the first quarter, optimizing its operations and making tough decisions to ensure long-term sustainability. While reports suggested over two dozen closures, the company emphasized that such actions are a regular part of managing a business of its size.
In previous years, Mod Pizza had ambitious growth targets, highlighted by a significant equity financing investment in 2019. Although the goal of reaching 1,000 units in five years was not achieved, the company remained focused on expansion. With a mix of company-owned and franchised outlets, Mod Pizza posted a net income of $4.2 million in 2023. Despite a slight decrease from the previous year, the brand's financial performance showcased resilience in a competitive market.

Looking ahead, Mod Pizza aims to leverage its strong culture and dedicated customer and employee base to propel the brand forward. With its core values intact, the company seeks to write a new chapter in its history, guided by a robust leadership team and strategic vision. As the restaurant industry continues to evolve, Mod Pizza's journey serves as a testament to adaptability and perseverance in a dynamic market landscape.
